do you like living in a world full of sterotypes? do you want to change it? -

its unfortunate we have stereotypes. some people don't understand the differences between race/nationality and culture.a world without stereotypes would be ideal! watching a block party piece on last night's news (7/4/08) brought tears to my eyes because the neighborhood is multiracial, it's an annual event for the street that was started by a neighbor years ago who is recently deceased. the people interviewed spoke of their neighbors as being and treating each other like family, including those new the street. unfortunately, there will always be those that will hold onto stereotypes as their belief system, instead of learning otherwise about another person or culture. we all have likes and dislikes, however, that shouldn't stop us from treating each other respectfully and with understanding. i don't disagree with one who says they're down for their culture first as long as they allow another the same feeling...and this is where understanding can begin. when we realize an understanding of our own, we can begin to accept each others commitments, contributions, failings, and aspirations. no one can claim an understanding of their own if they choose to hold onto negativity and perpetuate that negativity toward others. positve change begins with the individual, and is shared by passing it along to others.
